Who are we?
About The Messy Patch
It’s true that children learn best whilst experimenting and discovery the world around them. That is why our classes have been carefully designed to encourage babies and toddlers to explore a wide range of new textures and materials through touch, taste, and smell.
Messy play is an extremely hands-on sensory activity, which enhances children’s cognitive skills, social skills, body control and balance through the large and small movements that they make when they play. Things such as painting, scribbling, mixing, and dancing encourage children to learn early mark making skills, whilst gaining an insight into the basics of science and maths; learning about gravity, cause and effect, the difference between liquids and solids and how different substances react in different situations.
We allow babies and toddlers to gain confidence by using their own imagination rather than giving them structured, adult led activities. By focusing on the ‘process’ rather than the ‘product’ children gain confidence in their own choices and ideas, rather than simply trying to do what they think adults want them to do.
